Dear Professor, Rosalind M. Chow,
My name is Chenmiao Wei, and I majored in Human Resource Management, graduated in Anhui, Chian. My courses included social psychology, applied psychology, statistics, organizational behavior, management, etc. I am writing to you to ask will you accept Ph.D students for the fall, and if I have the chance to join in your research lab.
Learning from your website, I learned that your research fields focus on social hierarchy and inequality, gender and racial diversity, intergroup relations and intragroup process. Your research paper “Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes” indicated how the task relevance resulted cooperative or competitive behaviors in relatively high-status groups and low-status group, and how would the concern for intra-group status mediate these cooperative/competitive behaviors of intra-group behavior. Also, you hypothesized that task relevance influenced the collective outcomes mediated by cooperative collective process. In this experimental study, hypothesis-test method was used and 2 experiments based on self-report scales were conducted, and statistics were analyzed through correlation and analytic hierarchy analyzing methods. Structural equation models were also adopted to test the hypothesis. And the result can definitely shed a light on varies organization managers in choosing managing strategies.

I personally conducted the majority of these researches independently, and because I was at school, students and teachers were the main object for me. In these studies, I adopted field study, case study, self-report and literature review to collect and analysis statistics to test hypothesis. I’ve learned how important it is to assure the accuracy of the study methods and the source of the statistics, the right researchers to work with, the appropriate publications to choose and so forth. It is a great challenge to do researches and specially to make a trenchant one, but I am always enjoying the process.
