While the court may have (i) _______ legal responsibility, he should not walk away from the courthouse with a (ii) _______conscience. Morally reprehensible actions sometimes escape (iii) _______by the judicial system.
Blank (i)accused him of convicted him of exonerated him from
Blank (ii)guilty clear ambiguous
Blank (iii)adulation equivocation castigation
We know both that blank (ii) needs to provide contrast to legal exoneration and that it describes how someone’s conscience should be after “morally reprehensible” actions. To generate an appropriate filler word for blank (ii), we need to note that we are describing how the man’s conscience should not be making. Choose “clear” as a filler word.
